Standing five-foot-11-inches tall and weighing in at 381 pounds, he’s among the heaviest in the super heavyweight category, beating competitors from nations such as Iran, Russia, and Venezuela where powerlifting is as big as hockey is in Canada. To compliment his world records, Stephen also received the Champion of Champion Overall Lifter of the Meet award: the first Canadian recipient in 13 years.

Now, here’s the rub:

Recently, Stephen was informed by the Ontario Blind Sports Association (OBSA), the governing body of his sport, that because of a budgetary shortfall they could not financially support his bid to represent Canada and defend his world title this October. However, the OBSA has offered their charitable donation tax credit for any funds Stephen can raise on his own. A financial donation would support his bid, this October, to defend his world title. This year, the competition is being held in Turkey, and Stephen needs approximately $4000 to cover the air fare, hotel accomodations, Visa application, and other necessary costs (such as food). The deadline for Stephen to confirm his participation is fast approaching. He needs to have the funds secured no later that August 31, 2010.
